UCLA School of Dentistry is committed to providing comprehensive dental education and fostering a culture of innovation and excellence in patient care. The programs offered here are designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge required to succeed in the modern dental landscape.

UCLA School of Dentistry Program

The UCLA School of Dentistry offers a range of programs, including Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS), Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD), and many specialized residency programs. These programs are structured to offer students extensive clinical experience, cutting-edge research opportunities, and a solid foundation in dental sciences.

Prerequisites for Admission and Academic Regimen

Applicants seeking admission to UCLA's 4-year DDS program are required to have completed at least three years of coursework, with many applicants having completed four years, and must have earned a minimum of 90-semester units or 135 quarter units.

All prerequisite courses, including inorganic/general chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, and biology, must be passed with a grade of "C" or higher and completed by June 30th of the application year. Additional recommended courses that enhance applications include histology, microbiology, and social sciences.

International applicants must meet the same admission requirements as domestic applicants but are reminded that financial aid is limited to U.S. citizens and permanent residents.

Applicants must also obtain a competitive score on the Dental Admissions Test (DAT). The DAT is a standardized test that measures general academic ability, comprehension of scientific information, and perceptual ability. DAT preparations can help you achieve a high score.

Selection Process and Minimum Entry Score

The Admissions Committee begins reviewing applications in July and selects candidates for interviews based on information submitted through the ADEA Associated American Dental Schools Application Service, including supplemental questions. Interviews are scheduled between July and January.

UCLA's decision-making process considers various factors, including scholastic records (science GPA, overall GPA), Dental Admissions Test (DAT) scores, a holistic review of experiences in shadowing, volunteering, research, academic enrichment, employment, substantive letters of recommendation, and a personal interview.

The minimum scores for consideration vary each year, depending on the competitiveness of the applicant pool. To get an idea of the minimum DAT scores required for admission to the DDS program, prospective students should visit the official admissions page of the UCLA School of Dentistry, as these scores can change every year.

UCLA's overall average GPA is 3.72, science GPA is 3.67, and DAT Academic Average score is 22.
