Dr. Romano's DAT Class was absolutely indispensable, especially for chemistry. If you're finding Organic Chemistry or General Chemistry challenging, this class is a must.
Both the DAT Destroyer and Math Destroyer were spot-on with their practice content. They closely matched the actual exam, making them invaluable for preparation.
Participating in the DAT Destroyer Study Group was incredibly beneficial. The daily questions posted there were challenging and significantly boosted my prep.
Dr. Romano’s free Bio Review and over 600 free YouTube videos were game-changers. These resources are perfect for brushing up on weak topics.
Study Tips & Strategies
Chemistry & Biology
I struggled with Organic and General Chemistry due to COVID-era classes, but the resources mentioned above helped me build a strong understanding. Biology had some tricky questions, but I managed to reason them out.
Reading & Math
While reading wasn’t too challenging, I did encounter an error in one passage and reported it to the ADA. Math was my weakest section, but I’m satisfied with my score as it should be enough for dental school.
GPA & Test Strategy
With a 3.7 GPA, I took the DAT exam for the first and last time. If I were to do it again, I would focus solely on the DAT Destroyer and Math Destroyer. Timed tests weren’t accurate and added unnecessary stress.

I took my DAT yesterday and I am very pleased with my results. I used the DAT Destroyer and Math Destroyer and felt like they prepared me very well for the exam. The questions on the destroyer prepare you for any type of question you might see and they force you to really know the concepts required for success on the DAT. I solved all the questions in the DAT destroyer and they made sure that I had a very strong and holistic understanding of the sciences, which is exactly what you need for an exam that tests on a breadth of information. Don't be discouraged if you are struggling with Destroyer problems, instead, learn the concepts the questions are requiring you to know and practice the art of problem-solving so that you're ready for anything you might see on test day.Learn the concepts in the destroyer and you will be successful on test day. Hi everyone!! I have just taken my DAT for the second time today, and I want to give a huge thanks to Dr. Romano, Professor Barengolts, and Nancy! I believe my scores are a prime example of how important it is to be diligent and be smart with how you prepare for the DAT. For both of my attempts, I "used" the DAT Destroyer, Dr. Romano's course, as well as supplementary materials like Chad's Videos to learn material and prepare for the DAT. BUT, what I didn't do was use the Destroyer the right way.
The first time I took my exam, I was very sloppy with how I used the book, and ended up not even getting halfway through it before my test date (which was also a result of lack of motivation and time management). When preparing the second time, I realized how much was at stake and that I had no time to mess around. I set myself a strict 8-week schedule that involved about 4 weeks of review and 4 weeks of practice. In those 4 weeks of practice, I was able to get through the Destroyer twice and my scores saw a significant improvement. Although my scores aren't anything absolutely incredible, they are scores that I am proud of and that reflect the effort I put into studying.

Thank you very much to Dr. Romano, Prof Barengolts, Dr. Travis, Nancy and the Destroyer team.I've been out of school for more than a decade and this process worked for me. I'm sure it'll work for you too!
Make sure to go through every page of the dynamite biology notes. Know every single question in the destroyer. It may seem daunting at first, but you'll be very happy you did. The chem destroyer and organic chemistry odyssey are great resources as well.These resources are the most cost effective and time effective resources on the market. If you don't know the topic or concept after getting a question incorrect, then go to YouTube and watch a couple free videos from Khan Academy and then redo the question. And then make sure to read the explanations in the back of the book. If you can't explain the problem solution in the book, then treat it as if you got the problem incorrect. After you finish a set of questions, then start the process over! That's all. Don't waste your time with online study schedules or timed exams.
Join their Facebook group and do the daily questions even if you are unsure of the answer. That way when he posts the solution you get a notification.
Dr. Romano has also uploaded hundreds of free videos on YouTube. After you have a foundation watch every single one and make sure you understand the concepts. He is very thoughtful and references need-to-know facts and concepts when explaining topics.
If you're planning on going to Optometry or Dental School you will be investing hundreds of thousands of dollars and thousands of hours over the next few years. Invest the few hundred dollars now and next several weeks/months into mastering the material Dr. Romano has put together and you'll be happy you did. There are no shortcuts!

Hi everyone! I recently took my DAT and wanted to share my experience. This test has consumed my daily thoughts for longer than I can remember. I scored 25AA/29TS/20PAT (including 30 in Orgo). These scores mark the end of a huge mental climb for me, but the beginning of an entirely new chapter.To the students reading this, trust Dr. Romano and take advantage of what he has to offer. I used ALL of his material: DAT Destroyer, Math Destroyer, Organic Odyssey, Gen Chem Destroyer (only selectively), Dynamite Bio notes, watched all of his 544 videos on youtube, participated & answered his questions every. single. day. I took his NY class (well part of it before Covid19 hit us) and was with him word by word, problem by problem and page by page. I stayed after almost every class to ask questions and clarify points (what a nerd right! IK). And even when the class ended he was always there to answer my many questions on the Facebook group. During the actual test, I finished the sciences with 40 min to spare.OC was my weakest and least favorite subject, but after understanding the concepts I can now proudly say that I didn’t memorize a single OC reaction. Between the destroyer and the odyssey and the class notes and reviewing them you have more than sufficient practice that eventually these reactions will become second nature & things will just make sense. Studying for this test was bloody hard, but if I had to do it again, I’d use the same material all over again and then some. I’m forever grateful for the Destroyer team!And to those who are feeling down bc it’s taking them an hour to do 15 PAT questions, to those who are spending 2 hours+ researching 1 question or 1 concept and to those who don’t know how to draw mechanism arrows yet, I’ve been there through it all and I feel you. I just want to tell you not to give up, It gets better, I promise just keeping putting in the work. The harder you work the sweeter the victory

I have been looking forward to making this post all summer and I'm currently doing just that with an ice cold beer on my desk as opposed to the coffee that fueled all 3 months of my late nights, early mornings, and countless sacrifices that were made to accomplish this goal. I am so thankful for Dr. Jim Romano Denis Barengolts and the entire DAT destroyer team for the investment that they make into us students. Just finished taking my exam! Couldn’t sleep a wink at all last night so I was running on epinephrine and caffeine and I had to use the restroom DURING a couple sections it was that bad... yikes! Get plenty of rest before and don’t freak out tossing and turning in bed for several hours until I had to get up like I did. Also don’t be bad at math like I am? Math is a language and I didn’t practice understanding the language enough before the exam! Anyway, big thank you to everyone here, students, staff, the Orgoman team and Nancy, and especially to Dr. Romano. I couldn’t get a 30 in Organic like I really wanted to because I missed a couple and I know which ones, too! With that being said, go with your guts, and if you studied well enough, your guts will be right

I took my DAT on Saturday and wanted to share my scores with everyone. I had a pretty bad stomach bug the day of the test and actually had to step out a few times to throw up (!) so you can tell which sections I lost time in. That said, I’m still super happy with my results and I can’t thank

Denis Barengolts enough.
A little bit of background: I’ve been out of college for about 10 years and work an average of almost 60 hours a week so I had to relearn pretty much everything on top of keeping the lights on. I started with DAT Booster after reading positive things about them on SDN and Reddit and watched every video they had along with Chad’s, following the Booster study guide as closely as I could.
It took me about a month to get through their “content” and when I opened the DAT Destroyer for the first time, I couldn’t even make it through the first 10 questions. Forget even answering the problems, I didn’t even know what concept the questions were asking. That’s when I reached out to the folks at Orgoman for tutoring. Denis is a beast and his course was super helpful. Having a base understanding from Chad’s was helpful to follow along and with the first set of homework we were assigned, I quickly started seeing the results - I was able to answer the questions in the destroyer!
For those of you just beginning your DAT journey, you’ve come to the right place - keep solving the daily problems posted in the group and do the readings alongside your other studying. For those already on their way, stick with it and it’ll all pay off. I never did a single full length practice test (don’t do this folks) and had to step out during the test 2-3 times and was able to make it through. If I can get a 22, anyone can get 24-25+
I've been out of undergrad for a few years and needed a science refresher to prepare me for the DAT. For context, 6 months ago I couldn't have detailed cellular respiration or basic o-chem mechanisms. DAT Destroyer (and bio notes) was an incredible resource and the results speak for themselves. I supplemented a few other resources, but 80% or more of my time was spent in the destroyer or on the YouTube channel. Amazing tools create amazing results and I couldn't be happier. I gave my 200% to the Destroyer, and it paid off. It is not as simple as writing it. I sacrificed myself, my son, who is only three, my girls, my family overall, but I was focus on one goal, and tonight we get to laugh together.
Hi everyone, I just took the DAT this morning and I'm so glad that I did it well. I would like to give a big thank to the Orgoman Team for the amazing Destroyer books and all the posts that Dr. Romano posts on FB study group everyday. They are very helpful.
I took my test almost two weeks ago and honestly I am so glad I chose the Destroyer for studying. I have always enjoyed being challenged and that’s exactly what Dr. Romano did to me for the past 5 months. The daily questions posted are utter gold that should not be taken for granted. I tried my best on them and tried not to be persuaded by others. If I got it wrong, I sat down and wrote out why and how it was wrong. If I got it right, I did the same. As for the destroyer, honestly I did it twice thru. The material may seem daunting at first, but by the time you finish you can do any problem that comes your way. I worked full time while studying and made a lot of sacrifices in my life to get enough study time. But this group, the Destroyer, and the Orgoman YouTube videos made it enjoyable. Dr. Jim Romano you have made something truly special and I thank you for dedicating your time to us. Well my friends, the time has come for me to join the breakdown crew. I took the DAT today and did pretty well, all thanks to Dr. Jim Romano and the Destroyer. Also, shout out to Professor Blois for the absolutely fantastic QR videos. I never sat three feet away on the right from Dr. Romano's desk (nor have I seen his desk, and I envy those of you who have!), but I still consider myself one of his students. I will be forever grateful for his help and guidance throughout my journey to this point. That being said, I'm not entirely happy with that organic score because it was my favorite section after learning from Dr. Romano... it was pretty easy too so I don't know what happened.
Regardless, I will probably write a full breakdown of how I studied and the like later today or tomorrow if there is a request for it from anyone! I would be more than happy to. I'll also answer any and all questions you guys have in replies below, or in messages if you're too shy to ask in the group. This post goes out to Dr. Romano and the dat mom (Nancy Steen). Took my DAT today and went from 20AA to 23AA! Dr. Romano’s gen chem videos are a must and helped me go to a 22. i already had a strong foundation in orgo, but doing some destroyer questions and looking over the roadmaps gave me the confidence to go from 22 to 30 in that section. the first time i read bootcamp’s bio notes...that was a mistake. too much extra info. dr. romano’s bio notes only include exactly what you need. listen to him when he says something is a sure bet question! Also know that it’s not about how long you study. it’s about how efficient you are. the first time i studied 2 months but studied the wrong material and inefficiently, landing me a 20. this time i studied for 3/4 weeks but focused on the right stuff. This entire group is responsible for pushing me through. whenever i was slacking, i thought of Dr. Romano and his reaper and immediately was back on it lol. thank you dr, nancy, and everyone else for fostering such a supportive and motivating environment! now it’s interview time!
Edit: I want to add that i never did a single timed exam. focus on the material and you don’t need to worry about time!
Hi Dr. Romano, I want to say thank you for your DAT Destroyer book. Without it I would not be able to destroy the Science Section in DAT. My PAT was average but other sections are great. Once again, I really appreciate the DAT Destroyer book. #think30 Destroyer book is everything I ever need for those 30s and 27 in QR. Thank you so much for your awesome book!

Hey guys:) So I took the dat yesterday and I am sooo happy with my results. I took this test 2 years ago and scored a 19. I got into dental school anyway but I had to give up my seat(s) due to personal reasons. Nonetheless, I was always bummed about my score bc I had studied SO much... my biggest mistake was that I used the wrong study materials (BC... duh). So fast forward to this year... retaking the dat was challenging to say the least. I had to juggle between my master's project research and studying. But thanks to Dr. Romano I did it!!!!! I used the destroyer(s) and the dynamite review and supplemented w/ some of his youtube videos. Honestly the science sections in the DAT were easier than the destroyer. I even found some questions from the destroyer in there lol. HUGE thanks to the destroyer team. I could have never done it without you!!! I will surely be recommending you to every pre-dent student out there.
Firstly, I owe it to Dr. Romano and Nancy Steen for my marks. If not for Dr. Romano I would have never been able to receive the mark I got. Thinking back at it now, it is crazy how anyone can contemplate whether or not they should do the NYC class. IT IS A MUST. The doc makes everything fun and bubbly and so simple to understand. One specific subject which he taught me from scratch, and I got my score fully dependent on him was Biology. All I took in undergrad was Gen BIO 1 and 2, and I hated bio. It was only when I had Dr. Romano teach bio in the DAT class that it became easy and everything made sense. He has a method of teaching that just works. In a nutshell, Dr. Romano taught all the sciences exceptionally well, but I have to let bio stand out and really thank him for teaching it in a fun way that makes you understand it.
The second thing I want to say is, DO THE DESTROYER! I am going to answer everyone biggest question: Is the destroyer really “it”???? The answer is 100% yes! If you can do all destroyer questions on the back of your thumb then you are set for the test. I personally finished the destroyer a total of 6 times and that helped me tremendously on the test. There was not one question that got me scared or left me puzzled what to do. The destroyer is the most similar practice questions you will get compared to the actual test. One last point only because I know the Dr. Romano is not pro timed test. On the actual DAT I was able to finish all 100-science question and then go back and review ALL 100 question again and I still had 2 min remaining for the section. The point is that if you can do the destroyer and understand the question, then on the actual test it will be a joke to you and you will be able to fly through the question in seconds. Why waste your time to take a timed test which just teaches you how to look at a clock count down, when you can maximize your time more properly by sitting with the destroyer, and understanding the method and approach towards a question. My opinion which I see is true after I finished is that if you know the destroyer cold then you are in a great position for the exam.
The Destroyer is the DAT Bible. It will prepare you, as nothing else will. However, I recommend it be used in a reference guide format to point out your weaknesses, then go back, and solidify your knowledge from textbooks. A very big thank you to Nancy Steen and Dr Romano!

The DAT Destroyer was an essential part of my preparation for the exam. It trained me to think through difficult problems, and gave me a deeper understanding of important concepts. It provided only relevant material, using pneumonic devices to help it all stick. I spent more time with it than any other book, and I believe I had a significant competitive advantage over those who did not. I would not allow a friend to take the test without knowing Destroyer inside-out first.

The DAT Destroyer was the most comprehensive tool I used in preparing for the sciences. It really equipped me with the knowledge and mind set I needed for the DAT. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is serious about getting into dental school. I have already received acceptances from Stonybrook, Temple, Ucon and NYU.

Before getting the DAT Destroyer, I took another diagnostic test and found out that I was not doing so well on the Gen Chem and Orgo sections. I then bought the DAT Destroyer. The explanations were simple and straight to the point. There were questions that I couldn't find anywhere else. The DAT Destroyer gave me more confidence in the Gen Chem and Organic!

When I started studying for the DAT, I would have considered myself lucky to break 20 on Gen Chem. I ended up with a 23 on the real thing - my lowest in the sciences...suffice to say i was ecstatic! The DAT Destroyer is essential. The explanations are great and covers what you will need to know. It's tough, but master it and the real thing will be a breeze!

I came across the DAT Destroyer by chance while looking for study materials - after a not so successful first attempt at taking the DAT. It turned out to be one of the best resources I could possibly find. f I had to do it again, I would use the destroyer every time, but thankfully I wont have to. My scores improved tremendously, I was able to bring my total science score up from a 16 in my first attempt to a 22 and to my own amazement, my Bio score went up 9!!! points. In studying for this test, my most useful and most efficient study guide was the DAT Destroyer...it allowed me to achieve a total science score of 26! It is a study guide meant for the serious student, and it will provide you with the science background needed to succeed on the DAT.

DAT Destroyer is hands down the most useful study guide I've used. I've used everything out on the market plus a prep course which was not a fraction of what I got out of destroyer. If I could go back, I would've spent all my time with The DAT Destroyer.
